Green Valley in Southern Arizona has a number of affordable communities for the 55+ active adult. Green Valley is an unincorporated city of about 23,000 people, which means lower taxes with no facilities such as schools to support, though it does have all the major amenities of a small town including a hospital, fire department, sheriff’s office, and so on.
There are several dozen different communities in Green Valley, giving a wide variety of homes to choose from. Some communities are large and have their own amenities such as golf courses, restaurants, swimming pools, pickleball courts, and other facilities, while some are small and residents make use of the facilities offered by the umbrella organization of Green Valley Recreation.
Green Valley Recreation
An important factor in choosing a retirement home in Green Valley is whether to have membership of Green Valley Recreation (GVR). Membership of GVR is tied to a house, not a person. Not all homes come with GVR membership, but if you buy a home which does have GVR membership then you are committed to it and cannot leave.
If you intend to take advantage of the many facilities that GVR offers its members, such as swimming pools, fitness centers, pickleball, and other amenities, then membership will be welcome, but if you do not intend to take part in the activities, or are buying in a community which has its own facilities, then buying a home without GVR membership will save you a few hundred dollars a year.
Among the most affordable Green Valley communities are the following, all with homes for sale in the mid $100s and lower.
