55+ Communities in Middlesex County With Homes for Sale Under $200k

Active adults who want to retire in New Jersey should consider these communities with homes for sale under $200k.

It’s halfway between Philadelphia and New York, it has 18 outdoor parks, and it features some of the finest healthcare facilities on the East Coast, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Middlesex County also appeals to active adults because of its restaurants, shopping malls, and affordable retirement communities.

The Middlesex County Parks System provides residents with hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, and ball fields. Its outdoor amphitheater in Edison puts on Broadway-style productions that draw in huge audiences, and public golf courses include Raritan Landing in Piscataway, The Meadows in Plainsboro, and Tamarack in East Brunswick (all have low green fees). And about those hospitals: You’ll find nine top contenders, including Penn Medicine Princeton Health and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Getting around Middlesex is easy since almost every major north/south East Coast roadway and rail passes through here. Major highways include U.S. Routes 1 and 9, the Garden State Parkway, and the NJ Turnpike. The Newark Airport is also a great option for those who don’t want to face the traffic around the larger nearby international airports.

Living in this dynamic part of New Jersey means that you’re near the best of everything, and there’s a wide selection of retirement communities with homes priced under $200k. We found three in Monroe and one in East Brunswick. Take a look.
