The top hospitals in Pennsylvania have cutting-edge emergency rooms, the ability to deliver outstanding care for all types of patient conditions, and lower levels of mortality and medical complications.

In addition to having some of the best physicians and staff in the state, the leadership is strong and focused. These hospitals are also known for their team-based care to put their patients first. 

Active adult home seekers who are considering a move to Pennsylvania may want to consider 55+ communities that are near the best hospitals in the state. Here are several with homes for sale in Pennsylvania, and the hospitals that they are near.

Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian – Philadelphia

Part of Penn Medicine, Penn Presbyterian has also been ranked as the top hospital in the country. It has a Level 1 trauma Center, a Pavilion for Advanced Care, and the Penn Musculoskeletal Center.

The Arbours at Eagle Pointe – Philadelphia

High $200s – Mid $500s

Pennsylvania real estate near Philadelphia is highly desirable, so finding 55+ communities close to the city can be challenging. The Arbours at Eagle Pointe is a newer community that has just under 400 attached and single-family homes.

There are eight spacious floor plans with two bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and garages. The clubhouse has an exercise room, a great room, a pub and catering kitchen, and an outdoor pool and spa.

Woodhaven Hills – Bensalem

Mid $200s – High $200s

An intimate community, Woodhaven Hills has just 52 resale attached homes, built from 2007 to 2009. The 1,845 square-foot, two-story townhomes have two bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and attached one-car garages. These welcoming homes also have elevators and luxurious master suites. Bensalem is in Bucks County about 20 miles away from Philly.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Shadyside – Pittsburgh

UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside is part of the UPMC health care organization, and is also a Level 1 trauma Center. It is part of a network that includes over 100 outpatient offices in Allegheny County. UMPC has a renowned rehabilitation institute and an institute for behavior health.

The Enclave at Concord Green – Pittsburgh

Mid $300s – Low $400s

Smaller is better at this cozy 55+ neighborhood, which is being built with 25 attached new residences. Though floor plans have not been announced, homes in The Enclave at Concord Green will offer single-story living and open floor plans. In addition to being near UPMC, The Enclave is situated between two golf clubs, Lindenwood Golf Club and Valley Brook Country Club.

Traditions of America at Summer Seat – Pittsburgh

High $200s – Mid $300s

Also new, Traditions of America at Summer Seat will have 133 new attached and single-family homes upon completion. The seven floor plans range from 1,542 to 2,314 square feet. Plans are underway for a state-of-the-art clubhouse, with a sports bar, exercise room, and activity rooms. Outdoor amenities feature a heated pool, sports courts, and a community garden.

Jefferson Health – Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals – Philadelphia

Jefferson Health has four Philadelphia locations. The main one, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and the Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, are both in Center City Philadelphia. There are two more locations in South Philadelphia. Its Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center is highly ranked, as are its orthopedics, nephrology, gastroenterology, neurology, and geriatrics departments.

Kings Run at Haddon Heights – Haddon Heights, NJ

Low $100s – Mid $200s

Some New Jersey 55+ communities are quite close to Philadelphia, and Kings Run is less than 12 miles away. There are 66 resale condos, with six floor plans ranging from 650 to 1,495 square feet. The units are in secure buildings with parking lots. There is also a private clubhouse with an exercise room and activity spaces.

The Plaza Grande at Garden State Park – Cherry Hill

Mid $100s – Low $500s

Also convenient to Philly, The Plaza Grande at Garden State Park has 608 resale condos with seven floor plans. The Plaza has amenities highlighted by an outdoor pool, and a modern fitness center.

Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center – Hershey

Nationally ranked in cancer, gastroenterology and orthopedics, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has earned high marks for patient care. They provide emergency and trauma services, and a wide range of other medical care options.

Four Seasons at Elm Tree – Mount Joy

Low $200s – Mid $300s

Four Seasons at Elm Tree excels at building active adult communities, and their Elm Tree property is no exception. Its elegant clubhouse, fitness center, putting green, and tennis facilities allow residents to enjoy resort-style lifestyles. There are 245 resale single family homes, with five different models.

Lehigh Valley Hospital – Allentown

Part of the Lehigh Valley Health Network, Lehigh Valley Hospital is rated highly in gynecology, pulmonology, and nephrology. Its Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute is associated with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance. The Lehigh Valley Institute for Special Surgery and Lehigh Valley Heart Institute also belong to this network.

Briarwood Commons – Whitehall Township

Mid $200s – Mid $300s

Located just six miles north of Allentown, Briarwood Commons is a tight-knit 55+ community of 63 attached new and resale homes. The five floor plans are sized from 1,382 to 2,650 square feet. The welcoming clubhouse has activity rooms, a catering kitchen, an exercise room, and a covered deck.
