For those  who crave a life full of adventure, Apollo Beach is the ultimate place to call home.
For those  who crave a life full of adventure, Apollo Beach is the ultimate place to call home.

Nestled on Florida’s Central Gulf Coast, along the shores of Tampa Bay, Apollo Beach is a waterfront community that is a great vacation or retirement destination. The area is just 30 minutes south of Tampa and about an hour north of Sarasota. Retiring to Apollo Beach puts active adults within easy reach of beaches, golf, retail centers, restaurants and other local attractions.

Apollo Beach is located within Hillsborough County, which is one of Florida’s most populous counties. It has developed into a small resort town, yet maintains its small-town feel. While visitors and locals alike can enjoy Apollo Beach’s shops and restaurants, the area is also near many other popular destinations. Besides Tampa Bay and Sarasota, all the theme parks and attractions of Orlando are also about 90 minutes away.

Like most of Florida, Apollo Beach’s climate features hot, humid summers and warm, mild winters. During the summer months, average daytime temperatures are in the 80s with highs climbing into the low 90s. Winter days are typically in the low to mid-60s, but can reach the low to mid-70s.

This beautiful weather makes Apollo Beach a fabulous location for outdoor activities. Beaches and canals offer swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, rafting,  and more. For local golfers, Apollo Beach includes an 18-hole, par 72 golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones. Apollo Beach is also well known for its Tampa Electric Manatee Viewing Center.

Here visitors can head down to the boardwalk to view fish, sharks, crabs, sea birds and, of course, manatees. The education center provides information about the manatees, as well as the power plant and energy production in the area. A tidal walk and trail display local plants, while a concession area and gift shop are available for buying a snack or souvenir.

Southshore Falls offers exquisite 55+ living in one of Tampa’s most exciting neighborhoods.

Throughout the surrounding Tampa Bay area, locals can enjoy beautiful beaches and many world-class attractions. Just a sampling of these great attractions includes The Florida Aquarium, the Tampa Museum of Art, Busch Gardens Tampa and Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo.

Those who love to shop can explore the stores and boutiques in Hyde Park Village or search for bargains at Ellenton Premium Outlets. A variety of shows and events are held at the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts and visiting grandkids would love a trip to the Glazer Children’s Museum.

Active Adult Communities

Active adults who want to settle in the Apollo Beach area can choose from several appealing communities. In Apollo Beach, options include the open-age MiraBay community, as well as Southshore Falls, a community which is open to residents aged 55 or better. Each of these communities offer diverse homes and inviting clubhouses. Other nearby communities include larger developments like Sun City Center and Valencia Lakes.

Retiring to Apollo Beach offers active adults both small-town tranquility and easy access to a wide range of area attractions, as well as coastal living and a sunny Florida climate.
