Part of the Ocala area in Marion County, Summerfield is an unincorporated region of Central Florida that attracts active adults who love horses, golf, nature, and other forms of outdoor recreation. The area is close to The Villages, one of the largest communities for residents 55+ in Florida. However, you don’t have to live in The Villages to enjoy superb amenities and outstanding scenery. Mid $100s – Mid $400s
For lots of golf and upscale recreation centers, consider Spruce Creek Country Club. Four nine-hole golf courses are found in this gated, 55+ community. The Eagle Ridge Golf Club also includes a putting green, a pro shop, and a driving range. These courses designed by Terry Doss have been called some of the best golf experiences in Florida. Members of the club can take free classes, as well.
Other amenities at Spruce Creek Country Club include The Lake Vista Recreation Center and its huge fitness center and indoor swimming pool as well as The Peninsula Park Recreation Area, which has a heated outdoor pool, tennis courts, pickleball, nature preserves, and space for beach volleyball. Properties in this community include 3,250 single-family homes in various models and sizes.
Below $100s – High $300s
Close to Summerfield and Interstate 75, Lakeside Landings is in Oxford and an excellent choice for active adults looking for a resort-style lifestyle. The gated community is a collection of 700 single-family homes, condos, and attached villas. Exercise classes take place in the fitness studio, and there is a pool, a putting green, and tennis courts. Residents gather for happy hours at the cabana bar, and Lakeside Landings offers a beach area and a fishing pier.
Condos come in one and two-bedroom models with dens and the larger homes have up to four bedrooms and over 3,000 square feet of living space. The local Sumter County area provides many lakes, stunning golf courses, and a lifestyle that thrives on water. There are plenty of places for boating, fishing, and swimming.
Low $100s – High $100s
Golf cart paths and RV parking are available at Spruce Creek South. The community is located just two miles from The Villages, and has an 18-hole golf club called Links of Spruce Creek South. There’s a 25,000 square-foot clubhouse where residents meet for classes and activities such as bridge, book club, and line dancing. There’s a fitness center, an arts and crafts studio, and an outdoor pool with a patio and a spa. Residents enjoy trails for biking and walking as well as plenty of parks, outdoor space, and golf course views.
Single-family homes are available on a resale basis and come in more than a dozen floor plans. At this 55+ community, it’s easy to run errands to the bank, post office, and grocery stores on golf carts instead of in cars.
Mid $100s – Low $400s
New and resale homes are available at Stonecrest, a 55+ community that offers a lot of amenities and recreation, including The Crest Club, where residents can enjoy an indoor lap pool, fitness center, and library. There’s a Veteran’s Memorial on the property and an outdoor resort-style pool.
Some of the most popular clubs at Stonecrest include the photography club, singles club, and aerobics classes. Out-of-towners can meet up with old neighbors in the East Coast club and the Midwest club. Three collections of single-family homes are available in several sizes and floor plans. Golfers can join the Stonecrest Country Club and enjoy both the 18-hole championship golf course and the 9-hole executive course. Most homes are on large lots and have views of the golf course.
Low $200s – Mid $300s
On the banks of Lake Griffin in the charmingly-named Lady Lake, Harbor Hills Country Club is a community of 940 new and resale single-family homes without age restrictions.
There’s an 18-hole championship golf course as well as an upscale clubhouse which residents will have to join to use. It includes The Signature Grill restaurant, a fitness center, and an indoor racquetball court. Outdoors, there’s a junior Olympic–sized pool, tennis courts, and a beautiful fishing lake. Residents also have use of the marina and boat launch. Homes at Harbor Hills are between two and four bedrooms, and most of them have dens. The community hosts dinner shows, Sunday brunch events, fitness groups, and language classes.
