In Tucson, Arizona, Academy Village welcomes active adult residents age 55 or better. This impressive community includes many familiar resort-style amenities, but it also features the Arizona Senior Academy where members can expand their horizons with classes and events covering a wide range of topics.

Academy Village was opened in 2000, by Doucette Homes, Inc., and is still in development. Plans for the community include both townhomes and single-family homes for a total of 264 residences. The homes are designed for low-maintenance living and, for an additional fee, residents can arrange for home maintenance and repair services.

At the heart of Academy Village, the community center is open to all residents. This inviting facility features meeting rooms, a multipurpose activity room and The Arizona Room for community parties and special events. The community center also offers a state-of-the-art fitness center, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court and scenic hiking trails.

Beyond these resident amenities, Academy Village is also home to the Arizona Senior Academy (ASA). At ASA, members can participate in continuing education classes and planned events, or make use of the library, computers and business center. While membership comes with a low monthly fee, the ASA also provides the community with free concerts and lectures. Public service opportunities are also available through the ASA, such as Book Share, a program which brings middle school students and ASA members together.

In addition to the amenities and opportunities available through the community center and ASA, Academy Village has a thriving social calendar. Residents regularly come together for potluck dinners, book or poetry discussions, or other special-interest club meetings. Group fitness classes also help residents stay motivated with activities like yoga, water aerobics and hiking.

When it comes to homes, Academy Village has designs to meet the needs of many different active adults. Townhomes are arranged in buildings of four to six attached units. They are available in three floor plans, ranging in size from 934 to 1,443 square feet, which include one or two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a one-car garage.

Single-family homes in Academy Village are available in five different floor plans, ranging from 1,680 to 2,675 square feet. Home designs include two or three bedrooms, two or two-and-a-half bathrooms, and a two-car garage. Three of the five designs offer the choice of a third bedroom or separate den, and some homes offer optional casitas.

With fabulous amenities, beautiful homes and a prime location in the heart of Tucson, it’s easy to see why Academy Village is a popular destination for active adult retirees.
