At a time when you can get just about anything delivered to your doorstep, on-site retail is still a valued amenity in active adult communities. Many people enjoy perusing their favorite shops to find something unexpected or make sure they’re getting exactly what they want. Master-planned communities that set aside space for retail ensure that their residents never have to go far to purchase the things they need. Here are a few communities with great shopping districts.
Bonterra at Woodforest - Montgomery, TX
Woodforest has set aside 90 acres within its boundaries for commercial use. CVS Pharmacy was the first business to set up shop in the community, providing photo and pharmaceutical services as well as groceries to residents of the 55+ neighborhood, Bonterra at Woodforest. A Star Stop Chevron gas station is also moving in, and 2.25 acres has been purchased for the Pine Market Center’s first phase, a 15,000 square-foot retail and office building.
In addition to several clubhouses and recreational facilities, On Top of the World features Circle Square Commons, an entertainment and social hub for the community that includes all sorts of retail. A weekly farmers market provides fresh, seasonal produce while a design studio helps residents personalize their homes with flooring, appliances, cabinetry, and more. A fitness center and spa offers spa services, a full-service salon, and fitness training.
Fearrington Village - Pittsboro, NC
The Village Center at Fearrington Village offers a full day of shopping within the community. Bookworms often stop by McIntyre’s Books, an independent book store with a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction. Across the street, an apparel and gift boutique curates an ever-changing selection of luxury goods. The Village Center also includes a beauty salon and spa, wine shop, and several restaurants.
Liberty Cottages at Park West - Mount Pleasant, SC
Homeowners in Liberty Cottages at Park West can stop by The Shoppes at Park West when they enter the community. The business district includes a Publix grocery store, O’Neil Spirits, several restaurants, and two banks. The Plaza at Park West and Salterbeck Village will also offer residents even more specialty boutique retail in the near future.
As a part of the Nocatee master-planned community, residents of Del Webb Ponte Vedra have access to a town center that includes a gift boutique, bike shop, wine market, hair salons, nail bar, Publix grocery store, and much more.
