Savannah's quaint and historic homes and streets are a big draw for active adults.

Located in East Georgia, Savannah is known for its rich history, Antebellum architecture, and reputation for southern charm. Whether you're enjoying gothic architecture, historic cobblestone streets, or ocean access, there's plenty to do in this charming city. Savannah's location offers visitors and residents alike access to Tybee Island, the shrimping village of Thunderbolt, and three residential areas that used to be summer resort communities: Beaulieu, Vernonburg and the Isle of Hope.

Historic Homes

Founded in 1733, Savannah is known for its many historic homes. Some, like the Olde Pink House, have become restaurants. Others, like the Sorrel-Weed House, are known for their popular ghosts tours. And some, like the Davenport House Museum and Green-Meldrim House, are museums of history. Then there's perhaps the most famous, the Mercer-Williams House, which was the main location in the popular book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Popular Attractions

Other places to visit in Savannah are Club One, home of The Lady Chablis, also made famous in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Then there's the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, Oatland Island Wildlife Center, Pirate's House tavern, and Pinkie Masters Bar, a popular Savannah watering hole with political ties to Jimmy Carter. And, lest we forget, Savannah is one of the few cities in the country that allows drinking in open, public spaces. There's not much more relaxing than enjoying a drink while exploring some of the country's most historic architecture.

Savannah is full of wonderful shopping. With both national retail chains and local boutiques, there’s no limit to the shopping you can enjoy. There’s the Savannah Mall, Oglethorpe Mall, Abercorn Walk, Custard Boutique, Habersham Shopping Center, Paris Market & Borcante, and plenty more on the quaint streets of Savannah.

Continuing Education

Home to four colleges and universities offering bachelors, masters, and professional or doctoral degree programs, Savannah has plenty of options for continuing education. Georgia Southern University-Armstrong, Savannah State University, South University, and the Savannah College of Art and Design are all located in the city. In addition to these, Georgia Tech Savannah offers certificate programs, and Georgia Southern University has a satellite campus in the city.
