Active adults who enjoy rounding the bases have numerous options in Florida. Communities with softball fields are not hard to find, probably because softball is a year-round sport in the Sunshine State. Florida is also the place to be for spring training baseball, so grab your glove and check out one of these 55+ neighborhoods that have a softball field and a starting lineup.

Stone Creek – Ocala, FL

High $100s – High $400s

Sports are a big part of life at Stone Creek, a gated 55+ community in Ocala. The softball field is found on the beautifully landscaped grounds of this desirable community, and softball teams get together for games and practices thanks to the coordination of the on-site activities director. When you’re not busy with home runs and strikeouts, you can also try some golf, shuffleboard, or tennis. There are a pool and a fitness complex as well.

Stone Creek has 3,800 new and resale single-family and attached homes, all built by Del Webb. Six different models have dozens of floor plans, and you can customize the finishes and amenities that you want when you buy new. Ocala is one of the most popular Central Florida cities for part-time snowbirds and full-time retirees.

Pelican Preserve – Fort Myers, FL

Further south is the Gulf Coast city of Fort Myers. Residents at Pelican Preserve have access to a gorgeous and well-maintained softball field bordering a 38-acre nature preserve. There’s a softball club for people who want to play regularly, and the full-time activities director puts together games and tournaments. This 55+ community was one of the first in the world to earn the Gold Seal of Sustainability from Audubon International’s Sustainable Development program.

Additional amenities at Pelican Preserve include a 70,000 square-foot clubhouse, a fitness center, art studio, resort-style pool, and smoothie bar. In addition to softball, residents can enjoy volleyball, golf, pool parties, lawn bowling, and dance classes. The community is gated, with 2,500 single-family homes, attached villas, and condos.

Huntington at Hunter’s Ridge – Ormond Beach, FL

Low $200s – Low $300s

On the Central Atlantic Coast is Ormond Beach and one of the newest active adult communities in the area is Huntington at Hunter’s Ridge. You’ll find a softball field at this 55+ community, which is also known for its maintenance-free lifestyle in single-story residences. Only 326 single-family and attached homes are planned, providing for an intimate setting where residents can enjoy batting practice and competitive softball games. If you’re interested in new construction, this is a community to consider.

In addition to softball, enjoy the three outdoor pools, tennis and shuffleboard courts, and private wine lockers. There is a fitness center, a library, and group exercise classes including yoga and water aerobics.

Royal Highlands – Leesburg, FL

Mid $100s – Low $300s

Most people think of Florida as flat, but the west-central town of Leesburg has some gorgeous rolling hillsides, and there you’ll find Royal Highlands. While this 55+ community is known for its championship golf course and its four lakes where residents can fish, there’s also a well-maintained softball field and plenty of residents who are looking to play.

Sports are a big part of life at Royal Highlands. In addition to softball and golf, there are also horseshoe tournaments, yoga classes, shuffleboard, and bowling. There are a fishing pier and boat ramps, as well as an indoor and outdoor pool. The gated community offers 1,500 resale single-family homes in over 50 floor plans.
