One of the best aspects of shopping online is being able to read reviews of a product before buying. With its introduction of the new rating and reviews system, 55places.com hopes to offer that same value to potential homebuyers who are considering buying a home in an active adult community.
How It Works
The new 5pplaces.com ratings and reviews show up on each community’s individual listing page. The star rating appears along with the Quick Facts at the top of the listing, while the reviews are listed on their own tab (just below the Quick Facts and community photos).
For example, take a look at the ratings and reviews on the listing for Sun City in Arizona. The ratings are based on a simple star system, which lets readers give a community one to five stars, with five stars being the best. The star rating in the Quick Facts also notes how many reviews the rating is based on.
How To Review A Community
The Reviews section gives readers a chance to more fully explain their thoughts about the community. You can easily add your own rating and review of a community by clicking on the red "Leave a Review" button toward the top right of its Reviews tab.
You will be asked for some basic information including your name (as you would like it displayed on the review) and your email address. Please list a valid email address as a verification message will be sent to you before the review is published. Your email address will not be published or used in any way except as a verification that you were the writer of the review.
The rating and review form also includes a box you can check to show that you are a homeowner or resident of the community. You do not have to be a resident to leave a review. If you’ve visited the community and want to share your impressions, simply do not check the "I am a resident" box.
When writing your review, think about the kind of information which will help other potential homebuyers make a decision. Your first-hand impressions of the community and its social and recreational opportunities may offer more insight into the community’s general atmosphere. Please note: all of the reviews are moderated by the staff at 55places.com and will not be posted if they include vulgar language, business solicitations or otherwise inappropriate content.
When reading the existing ratings and reviews, it is important to take them with a grain of salt. While one couple may pass on a community because it is too small or quiet, that might be exactly what another homebuyer is looking for in an active adult community.
For this reason, remember that the star rating is only part of the picture. The reviews are available to offer many different perspectives on the same community. As 55places.com’s rating and review system has just been released, many communities have not yet been reviewed.
As you browse through the site during your own home search, please feel free to review the communities which you have visited, the places where you have once lived, or the community you now call home. As the collection of ratings and reviews grows, it will become a powerful tool to let active adults help each other find the community to meet their retirement dreams.
