There are many reasons for active adults to retire in Charlotte, North Carolina. The city is full of cultural amenities, entertainment options, and countless places to shop and dine.

While there are no 55+ communities located within Uptown proper, we’ve highlighted five 55+ communities that are located closest to the city, and ideal for anyone who's looking to commute to the city or just wants to take full advantage of having a vibrant metropolis so close.

Cresswind Charlotte

Mid $200s - High $300s

Originally built in 2016 by Kolter Homes, Cresswind Charlotte is one of the closest active adult neighborhoods to the Queen City.

Once completed, the community will have 850 single-family homes spread over a 370 acres that are surrounded by peaceful woods. Those looking for serenity and privacy but want to be close enough to the city that they can easily access Charlotte’s fun. Cresswind's age-restricted, new homes range from 1,448 to 2,547 square feet.

Kolter’s plans for the community include several amenities that range from an 18,000 square-foot clubhouse and a fitness center with an indoor pool to several athletic courts and walking and biking trails.

Along with its many amenities, residents will also appreciate the community’s convenient location to a shopping area that’s only three miles away and features a grocery store, pharmacy, and more.

The Vineyards on Lake Wylie

Mid $200s - Mid $500s

Located on the popular Lake Wylie, The Vineyards on Lake Wylie is ideal for active adults who like to be out on the water, but also like having the perks of a big city within a short driving distance.

It has 430 single-family homes that are available on a resale only basis. Both ranch-style homes and two-story homes can be found within the community, and they offer approximately between 1,356 and 2,755 square feet of living space.

Noteworthy amenities include a 7,000 square-foot clubhouse, fitness center, a variety of athletic courts, outdoor pool, and picnic area. Additionally, there’s a dog park and walking and biking trails. Boaters will also appreciate that the neighborhood is accessible to Lake Wylie with lakefront docks and 50 boat slips for residents to use.

Regency at Palisades

High $300s - Mid $600s

The Regency Palisades is home to 413 single-family residences with price points starting in the high $300s.

Both new and resale homes are for sale ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 square feet of living space. Floor plans include two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a two-car garage. The Regency’s amenities include a clubhouse, billiards, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, plus bocce, pickleball, and tennis courts.

Residents will also have the option to buy memberships to the Palisades Country Club. There are golf and social memberships available. Depending on the membership purchased, members will have access to the country club, banquet facilities, restaurant, golf-course, event lawn, an on-site retail store, and both a hard-court and grass tennis court.

Solena at The Vineyards

High $200s - Mid $300s

As one of the newest active adult communities in the area, Solena at The Vineyards has a lot to offer its residents — from its close proximity to Charlotte to the variety of floor plans Meritage Homes offers.

Upon completion, it will feature 200 single-family homes coming in five floor plans. All homes are single-story and feature three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and attached two-car garages. Sizes range from 1,591 to 2,099 square feet.

The community’s easy access to docks on the Catawba River is one of its biggest draws, but there are several other noteworthy amenities that include a manor house and clubhouse, fitness center, business center, two pools, tennis courts, a dog park, and 10 miles of walking trails.

The Meridians

High $200s - High $300s

The Meridians is small community built in 2017 by Meritage Homes that will feature a total of 73 single-family residences upon completion.

Within the community potential homebuyers will find prices that start from the high-$200s and sizes that span between 1,661 to 3,138 square feet. The variety of floor plans allows up to six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage.

Homeowners’ association fees cover cumbersome chores like exterior home maintenance, lawn care, and trash pickup. Other perks of living in the Meridians include a social membership to the Palisades Country Club, a fitness center, outdoor pool, and seven tennis courts.
