The pool at Solera is a pretty good place to be on hot Arizona days.

When looking at Phoenix, Arizona homes for sale, it can get overwhelming to decide which suburb is the right one for you. Between high-end Scottsdale, popular Surprise, affordable Mesa, and many others, it’s hard to know where to start.

One city you may want to consider is Chandler. Located southeast of Downtown Phoenix, it borders Mesa, Tempe, and Gilbert, as well as more rural sections of the popular area. After experiencing huge population booms in the 1990s and 2000s, Chandler now has a population just under 250,000. That population growth stemmed from technology companies like Intel doing business in the city. Eventually, that led to the arrival of shopping centers, cultural attractions, and greenspaces for residents to enjoy.

Today, Chandler is home to four 55+ communities and one active lifestyle community. Three of these consist of over 700 homes and boast resort-style amenities and affordable residences. With the variety of communities available, it’s likely Chandler has an option for most active adults. Let’s take a closer look at these communities to find out which one might be right for you.

Below $100k - Mid $200s

The largest community in Chandler, Sunbird consists of 1,631 single-family homes. The homes span three collections and 20 unique floor plans, so options here are varied for different needs and lifestyles.

All homes range from 745 to 1,680 square feet of living space and have one or two bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, and attached garages. The smallest residences, the Villa series, are manufactured homes that make great options for downsizing.

Amenities revolve around the massive 43,000 square-foot clubhouse and the 18-hole Sunbird Golf Course. Inside the clubhouse, homeowners will find everything from a restaurant to a fitness center to a ceramics studio. Outdoors, residents have access to a pool, tennis courts, and shuffleboard courts.

High $100s - Low $300s

Another single-family home community, Springfield consists of 742 low-maintenance homes. Reputable builder Pulte built homes with 18 different floor plans from 1996 to 2000.

All single-family homes range from 930 to 2,382 square feet and have two or three bedrooms, one to three bathrooms, and two- to three-car garages. Most homes include dens or offices as well.

Amenities offered in Springfield are vast and varied. The clubhouse includes a bar and grille, a restaurant, hobby and game rooms, a fitness center, and even a movie theater.

Outdoors, residents enjoy the Arizona sun at two outdoor pools and outdoor patio. There are several ways to have fun and stay in shape outdoors, too, with tennis, bocce, shuffleboard, and basketball courts. To top it off, the community is home to an 18-hole executive golf course that compliments the many other top-rated courses in the area.

High $100s - High $300s

Solera is another large 55+ community in Chandler. The 1,149 single-family homes here boast views of the nearby San Tan Mountains, which offer a good recreation option for homeowners. These Del Webb-built homes offer a low-maintenance lifestyle and have floor plans that range from 1,151 to 2,421 square feet. They include two or three bedrooms, two or three bathrooms, and two- to three-car garages.

Amenities here take advantage of the picturesque setting, with two outdoor pools and patios. Inside, homeowners enjoy a catering kitchen, hobby rooms, and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

There’s also tennis, pickleball, bocce, and shuffleboard courts, as well as walking trails great for taking in the scenery. Homeowners can also take advantage of discounted rates at nearby Lone Tree Golf Club.

Lone Tree

High $200s - Mid $400s

If discounted rates to Lone Tree Golf Club aren’t enough, active adults can simply choose to live right next to the course. Lone Tree is the smallest of the Chandler 55+ communities, offering just 72 homes in a quaint, tight-knit setting.

Pulte is still constructing homes here with seven different floor plans. They range from 1,715 to 2,5098 square feet and have two or three bedrooms, two to two-and-a-half baths, and two-and-a-half-car garages.

All amenities in the community are located in Lone Tree Golf Club, where residents can purchase a membership. They include a restaurant, pro shop, outdoor pool, walking trails, and access to the 18-hole golf course.

The Cays at Ocotillo

Mid $200s - High $200s

The final community we’re highlighting here, The Cays at Ocotillo, has no age restriction but is still worth a look for active adults. It includes 278 condos that feature the low-maintenance lifestyle they’re looking for.

The six different floor plans here have one or two bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and range from 862 to 1,577 square feet. Each offer single-story living, underground parking, elevator access, and a balcony or patio.

Amenities on offer include a clubhouse with plenty of social spaces, a fitness center, and a yoga studio. Outdoors, residents enjoy a heated pool surrounded by a patio with private cabanas. Shuffleboard, billiards, and a spa and hot tub are also included.
