While there are a few well-established communities in the Sarasota area to explore, the list mainly features brand new developments in some of the most popular retirement destinations across the country, including Florida, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and New Jersey. Active adults who want to retire in Southeast Florida will soon have another active adult community to choose from at Avalon Trails, a gated 55+ community located less than six miles from the Atlantic Coast. With plans for 217 attached homes, this new neighborhood will offer amenities such as a clubhouse, a fitness center, and two outdoor pools.

The highly anticipated Greenbriar Downs development recently broke ground in St. Johns, about 25 miles south of Jacksonville and 15 miles from the Atlantic Coast. This 55+ community will consist of 818 single-family and attached homes across 784 acres. The surrounding area offers an abundance of local attractions, including the St. Johns River, World Golf Village, and downtown St. Augustine.
With plans for 469 single-family homes, Regency at Avenir will create a new 55+ community within the 4,783-acre master-planned development, Avenir. In addition to offering 10 ranch-style floor plans, the community will provide amenities—such as a clubhouse with a cafe, a fitness center, and an outdoor pool—as well as social activities and clubs.

As a new gated active lifestyle community under construction in Southwest Florida, WildBlue will include 1,100 single-family homes across 15 floor plans. With plans for 1,500 single-family and attached homes, Heritage at Asante will soon offer another large, gated 55+ community in Surprise, a town located about 40 miles northwest of Downtown Phoenix. As a new age-restricted community within the master-planned Asante development, the community will offer a world-class lineup of amenities such as a 14,000-square-foot clubhouse.
Located just 20 miles south of Dallas, Cove of Hickory Creek will connect residents to some of the area’s best entertainment options and recreation opportunities. This gated 55+ community from builder D.R. Horton will include just 60 single-family homes across 10 floor plans ranging from 1,259 to 2,233 square feet.

At Legends at Twin Creeks, residents can enjoy a low-maintenance lifestyle thanks to a homeowners’ association that will take care of landscaping and lawn care. This new 55+ community located 27 miles north of Downtown Dallas will consist of 129 single-family homes with access to resort-style amenities such as a clubhouse with a fitness center and an outdoor pool.

Active adults who want to retire in Texas Hill Country can find both new and resale homes for sale at The Meridian, a gated 55+ community with plans for 135 single-family and attached homes. The Georgetown area may be known as the site of Sun City Texas, the state’s largest 55+ community, but there are also several other options for those who want to live in an active lifestyle community. Sitterle Homes at Rancho Sienna will include 60 single-family homes, and it will provide spacious floor plans, a low-maintenance lifestyle, and access to amenities.

The up-and-coming Wildbrook community will be located in Central North Carolina near Charlotte. This 55+ community will offer single-story, ranch-style homes across six floor plans. Another new active lifestyle community coming to the Castle Pines development is Reserve at The Canyons from builder Shea Homes. Builder Shea Homes will also construct Retreat at The Canyons within The Canyons development, an active lifestyle community with plans for 125 single-family homes. With construction beginning just this year by Lennar Homes, Sterling Ranch Patio Villas will include 248 attached homes upon completion.
