A recent study by the National Association of Home Builders shows that the homebuyers of today and tomorrow are more likely to buy smaller homes than in past years. By 2015, the average size of single-family homes is expected to be around 2,100 square feet. This trend certainly applies to active adult homebuyers as well, and 55+ community builders are adjusting their development plans accordingly.

IslandWalk at the West Villages in Venice, Florida is a gated community being built by DiVosta Homes. It accepts residents of all ages. Started in 2005, it will have 1,869 homes when completely built out. Being constructed within the larger West Villages community, IslandWalk has eleven floor plans to choose from.
Active adults who are looking to retire in Central Florida are sure to have heard of The Villages. This sprawling community has over 75,000 homes and is the largest age-restricted active adult community in the world. Yet The Villages is certainly not the only community in town. The popular Central Florida area is home to dozens of other active adult communities, ranging in size from 10,000 residences on down to less than 500 homes.
